A man appeared at Reading Crown Court on Wednesday, 11 September 2013, and was jailed for 19 years after being convicted of the attempted murder of his wife in Tilehurst.

Colin Hutt, aged 52, of School Road, Tilehurst, stabbed Lorraine Skeet at the Victoria pub in Norcot Road, on 17 March this year and was found guilty by a jury after an eight day trial.

After spending the day drinking, Hutt returned to his flat where he collected three knives and visited the pub where his estranged wife was present. She approached the doorway where he stabbed her seven times, causing her injuries to her chin and to her upper arms.

Three men present in the pub restrained Hutt until police arrived. He was taken to hospital before being taken in to police custody. On the advice of Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), Thames Valley Police charged Hutt on 18 March with attempted murder.

As well as being sentenced to 19 years imprisonment, Hutt will remain on licence for life.
