Man jailed for abusing young girls - Leighton Buzzard

A man who sexually abused a girl from the age of 9 to 14 was jailed for 6-years today, Thursday, 06 September 2012.

Gary Moore, 51, carried out the assaults at an address in Leighton Buzzard where he also sexually assaulted another girl.

Prosecutor Kathryn Howarth told Luton Crown Court that his crimes were uncovered when a woman confronted him about indecent images of young girls that she had found on his portable play station.

He disappeared from Leighton Buzzard and was found sitting under a tree after a search involving the police helicopter. He had taken Paracetamol tablets and some Rum. After being treated in hospital he was questioned by the police and confessed to abusing the two girls.

Moore, now of Peel Close, Verwood, Dorset, pleaded guilty to 10 counts of possessing indecent images of children. Before a trial in which the girls were due to give evidence, he changed his plea to admit charges of assault by penetration on a girl under 13, sex assaults on a girl aged under 13 and on a girl aged under 16.

Anne Faul, defending, said Moore suffers from depression and had left a suicide note. She said he had voluntarily told the police about the assaults on the girls.

Judge Philip Bartle QC told him: "I accept you are genuinely remorseful and ashamed. The abuse went on for a long period of time."
