A 52-year-old man from Bedford was imprisoned for three and a half years at Luton Crown Court on Tuesday, 03 April 2012 after pleading guilty to Blackmail.

Kevin Maher of Talbot Road, Bedford was arrested on 17 March 2012 after a police operation caught him trying to retrieve a package from a bin close to Castle Mound in Bedford, which had been the designated site for the 'drop off'.

Maher had originally made threats via a letter to damage the property of the victim and demanded the employee of Fraser Hart Jewellers hand over £20k worth of jewellery. This sparked the police operation, which resulted in the guilty plea.
