Man jailed following CO-OP robbery - Dunstable

A 28-year-old man who robbed a Dunstable convenience store appeared at Luton Crown Court on Tuesday, 11 December 2012, and was jailed for 40 months.

Danny Cornick, of New Woodfield Green, Dunstable, had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing of robbing the Co-Operative store in Westfield Road, Dunstable, on 08 November this year.

Cornick had entered the store at around 9pm and threatened the female shop assistant with a knife before forcing her to open both tills and empty the contents, thought to be around £700, into a carrier bag. Cornick then fled the store and the panic alarm was triggered.

Just a day later, detectives received information that named Cornick as the offender and following an examination of CCTV footage, he was arrested and charged.

Whilst sentencing Cornick on Tuesday afternoon, Judge David Farrell said that the offender could have been facing five years in prison had he not admitted the offence at the first opportunity.
