Man gets 14 years for sex assaults on stepdaughters - Luton

A Luton man who carried out a string of sex assaults on his two teenage stepdaughters was today, Tuesday 26 March 2013 jailed for 14 years.

The man groomed the girls over a long period of time, convincing them it was okay to touch and be tactile.

But Luton Crown Court heard how he then took it further and began sexually assaulting one sister when she was around 13 or 14.

Offences against her lasted until she was 16 and Judge Barbara Mensah heard how he then switched his attentions to her young sisters when she was 14.

Today the 36 -year- old stepdad appeared for sentence having been convicted by a jury of seven offences of sexual assault, assault by penetration, and four offences of sexual activity with a family member.

The court heard the offences had occurred in his late 20s and into his early 30's after he and the mother of the victim got married and set up home in Luton.

Passing sentence, Judge Mensah said that when the younger sister found herself a victim of the defendant, she had sent a text in the middle of the night to a friend in which she expressed her shock and anguish over what was happening.

The judge said the text message, which was read out in court, had made an impact on the jury.

The judge told the man he had ruined the lives and the childhood of the two girls.

In addition to the 14 year jail term, the stepdad was made the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which prohibits him from contacting the girls and having any unsupervised contact with a young person under the age of 16.

He was told he must not take on any employment which involves working with children and his name will be added to the sex offenders' register for the rest of his life.
