Man charged with murder - Hemel Hempstead

Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), has authorised officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Joint Major Crime Unit to charge a 30-year-old man with murder.

James Carbott of Epping Green, Hemel Hempstead, has been charged with the murder of 63-year-old Thomas Baird of Westerdale, Hemel Hempstead.

Baljit Ubhey OBE, Chief Crown Prosecutor for Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said: "Following an investigation by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Joint Major Crime Unit, a file was forwarded to us to consider whether any criminal charges could be brought against James Carbott.

"Having carefully reviewed all of the available evidence, Thames and Chiltern CPS authorised officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Joint Major Crime Unit to charge James Carbott with murder.

"The charge is in relation to the death of Thomas Baird who died following an incident at his home in Westerdale, Hemel Hempstead, at around midnight on Friday, 01 March 2013.

"The decision to charge was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors."

Carbott was remanded in police custody to appear before Hatfield Magistrates' Court this morning, Tuesday, 05 March 2013.
