Man charged with murder - Bishop's Stortford

Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit to charge a man with murder.

Matthew Keough, aged 44, of no fixed address has been charged with the murder of 45-year-old Sally Campion, who was found with serious injuries in Bartholomew Road, Bishop's Stortford at 10.46pm on Wednesday, 02 July 2014.  She was taken to hospital, but sadly died.

Adrian Foster, Chief Crown Prosecutor for Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said: "Following an investigation by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, a file was forwarded to us to consider whether any criminal charges could be brought against Matthew Keough.

"Having carefully reviewed all of the available evidence, Thames and Chiltern CPS authorised officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit to charge the man with murder.

"The charge relates to the death of a woman in Bishop's Stortford on Wednesday, 02 July 2014.

"The decision to charge was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors."

Keough has been remanded in custody to appear at Hatfield Remand Court this morning, Friday, 04 July 2014.

Criminal proceedings are active and defendants have the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no commentary or reporting which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.
