Man charged with manslaughter - Biggleswade

Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised officers from Bedfordshire Police to charge a 65-year-old man in connection with an incident, which occurred in the ASDA car park in Church Street, Biggleswade on Saturday, 03 August 2013.

Brian Holmes, aged 64, of Sandy died at Addenbrookes Hospital on Sunday, 04 August 2013, as a result of a serious head injury, which he sustained during the incident.

Alan Watts, of Lindsell Crescent, Biggleswade has today, Monday, 12 August 2013, been charged with manslaughter.

Baljit Ubhey OBE, Chief Crown Prosecutor for Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said: "Following an investigation by Bedfordshire Police, a file was forwarded to us to consider whether any criminal charges could be brought against the 65-year-old man.

"Having carefully reviewed all of the available evidence, Thames and Chiltern CPS authorised officers from Bedfordshire Police to charge the man with manslaughter.

"The charges are in relation to an incident, which occurred in the ASDA car park, Church Street, Biggleswade on Saturday, 03 August 2013, and resulted in the death of Mr Holmes.

"The decision to charge was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors."

Mr Watts has been bailed to appear at Bedford Magistrates' Court tomorrow, Tuesday, 13 August 2013.
