Man charged with daughter's murder - Hatfield

Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised officers from Hertfordshire Constabulary to charge a man with murder.

Carl Wheatley, aged 30, of Queen Bee Court, Hatfield has been charged with the murder of his 4-year-old daughter Alexa-Marie at their home address on 12 March 2014.

A post mortem to establish the cause of death will take place on Monday.

Adrian Foster, Chief Crown Prosecutor for Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said: Following an investigation by Hertfordshire Constabulary, a file was forwarded to us to consider whether any criminal charges could be brought against Carl Wheatley.

Having carefully reviewed all of the available evidence, Thames and Chiltern CPS authorised officers from Hertfordshire Constabulary to charge the man with murder.

The charges are in connection with the murder of a 4-year-old girl in Hatfield on Wednesday.

The decision to charge was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors.

Wheatley has been remanded in police custody to appear at Hatfield Remand Court this morning, Friday, 14 March 2014.

Criminal proceedings are active and defendants have the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no commentary or reporting which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.
