Man charged with attempted murder - Reading

Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), has authorised officers from Thames Valley Police to charge a man with attempted murder following an incident, which occurred in Reading on Friday, 16 August 2013.

Police were called to a report of a serious assault on a woman in Grafton Road, Tilehurst, Reading, at 7.28pm on Friday.

Neil Henderson, aged 38, of Hyde End Road, Spencers Wood, was arrested and has been charged with attempted murder, and assault by beating.

Baljit Ubhey OBE, Chief Crown Prosecutor for Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said: "Following an investigation by Thames Valley Police, a file was forwarded to us to consider whether any criminal charges could be brought against Neil Henderson.

"Having carefully reviewed all of the available evidence, Thames and Chiltern CPS authorised officers from Thames Valley Police to charge Neil Henderson with attempted murder, and assault by beating.

"The charges are in relation to the serious assault of a woman in Grafton Road, Reading, which occurred on the evening of Friday, 16 August 2013, and an unrelated assault.

"The decision to charge was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors."

Henderson was remanded in police custody to appear before Reading Magistrates' Court this morning, Monday, 19 August 2013.
