Man charged with 1988 kidnap and rape - Reading

Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised officers from Thames Valley Police to charge a man with a kidnap and rape, which occurred in Reading in 1988.

Peter Anderson Holder, aged 48, of Tippett Rise, Reading, has been charged with rape, indecent assault, kidnap, and possession of a class B drug - cannabis.

The first three offences occurred in Watlington Street, Reading, on the evening of 05 March 1988. The female victim was 30-years-old at the time of the offences.

Adrian Foster, Chief Crown Prosecutor for Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said: "Following an investigation by Thames Valley Police, a file was forwarded to us to consider whether any criminal charges could be brought against Peter Holder.

"Having carefully reviewed all of the available evidence, Thames and Chiltern CPS authorised officers from Thames Valley Police to charge the man with rape, indecent assault, kidnap, and possession of a class B drug - cannabis.

"The charges are in connection with offences, which occurred in Reading on 05 March 1988.

"The decision to charge was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors."

Holder was remanded in custody to appear at Reading Magistrates' Court today, Wednesday, 21 May 2014.
