Man jailed for sexually abusing young girl - Watford

A Watford man, who sexually abused a young girl received a 16-year extended sentence today, Monday, 7 August 2017.

Steven Price, aged 47, was jailed for 8 years and given a further 8 year extended licence period, which means he will be supervised by probation officers after his release until 2033.

Price first assaulted the girl when she was aged either 7 or 8. The offences continued for 4 years, St Albans Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor Isabel Delamere said that on one occasion he gave her gum in exchange for sexual acts.  There were "multiple incidents," which had "an enormous effect" on the victim, she said.

Price, of Sotheron Road, Watford, appeared for sentence having pleaded guilty to sexual assault on a girl aged under 13, causing a child to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity and two counts of sexual assault.

Defending, Daren Samat, said: "He is truly sorry. He feels shame, guilt and remorse for his actions."

Judge John Plumstead told Price: "I have read the heart-rendering victim personal statement. The horrifying underlying fact is that this was a little child. This child was a target for your sexual perversion. You committed a number of offences over a number of years against a helpless child, who was vulnerable."

In addition to the custodial sentence, Price must register as a sex offender for life.
