Man jailed for indecently assaulting young girl - Hemel Hempstead


A Hemel Hempstead man who, sexually abused a young girl, has today, Friday, 28 April 2017, been jailed for 7 years.

Roger Atherton, aged 65, assaulted the girl in his flat some time between October 1999 and April 2004. St Albans Crown Court heard that, at the time, he told the girl not to say anything.

Atherton, of The Heights, Hemel Hempstead, was convicted of two charges of indecent assault against the girl, who was no older than 7 and a half.

David Smithet, defending, said the offence was "historical" and happened on only one occasion.

Jailing him, Recorder Harold Persaud told Atherton: "She was an isolated, vulnerable child." He must register as a sex offender and abide by the terms of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
