Man caught with drugs in taxi jailed - Luton

An Albanian man, with an engineering degree, caught with four kilos of 92 per cent pure cocaine in a Luton taxi was today, Tuesday, 16 May 2017, jailed for four and a half years.

Elton Muja, aged 25, had come to the UK to earn money to pay for his father's hospital treatment in Tirana, Luton Crown Court was told.

Prosecutor Kevin West said on 4 April this year police officers saw him get into a taxi with a bag. It was stopped in Marston Gardens and he was arrested.

Muja, of no fixed address, appeared for sentencing having pleaded guilty to possessing a Class A drug with intent to supply.

Adrian Eissa, defending, said Muja was an educated man who had come to the UK to earn money to pay for treatment for his father who had a serious lung condition. He had been washing cars and labouring when he agreed to collect the drugs.

Judge Philip Bartle QC told him: "You were motivated by financial advantage." He jailed him for four and a half years and said the £1,280 found on him will be forfeited.
