Luton man jailed for sexually abusing young girl - Luton

A Luton man was jailed for 20 years today, Friday, 8 September 2017, for sexually abusing a girl in Luton.

Delroy Henton, aged 61, was told by a Judge at Luton Crown Court his behaviour was "wholly despicable."

The abuse, which included rape, took place when the girl was aged between 10 and 14. She confided in a friend and the police were called after she spoke to her head teacher.

Henton of Wolston Road, Luton was convicted of three counts of rape, assault by penetration and sexual activity with a child. He was of previous good character.

Lesley Manley, defending, said Henton continued to maintain his innocence. She said: "He appreciates the gravity of the offences. He understands he needs to be prepared for an extremely long sentence. He is now 61-years-old. He has led a life with a good work record."

Judge Michael Kay QC told him: "This is a persistent long course of serious offending against a child. It is wholly despicable. You exploited and groomed a child for your own sexual interest." In addition to the custodial sentence, Henton must register as a sex offender for life.
