Jayden Parkinson murder enquiry - man charged with murder

Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised officers from Thames Valley Police to charge a man with murder.

Ben Blakeley, aged 22, of Christchurch Road, Reading has been charged with the murder of 17-year-old Jayden Parkinson from Didcot following her disappearance on Tuesday, 03 December.  He has also been charged with perverting the course of justice.

Ruth Bowskill, Temporary Chief Crown Prosecutor for Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said: "Following an investigation by Thames Valley Police, a file was forwarded to us to consider whether any criminal charges could be brought against Ben Blakeley.

"Having carefully reviewed all of the available evidence, Thames and Chiltern CPS authorised officers from Thames Valley Police to charge the man with murder and perverting the course of justice.

"The charges relate to the disappearance of 17-year-old Jayden Parkinson.

"The decision to charge was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors."

Blakeley has been remanded in police custody to appear at Oxford Magistrates' Court this morning, Monday, 16 December 2013.
