Farley Hill fraudsters' appeal refused

27/10/2011

Today, 27 October, the Court of Appeal in London refused two fraudsters permission to appeal their convictions.

Wendy Jo Clark (53) and Janet Wilson (57), formerly of Parsons Farm, Farley Hill, near Wokingham, were convicted on 1 June of 22 counts of obtaining money transfers by deception after a month-long trial at Reading Crown Court.  They had defrauded their company, Your Health, of over £160,000, using bogus invoices.

They were sentenced on 1 July by the trial judge, His Honour Judge Stephen John, to 30 months' imprisonment on each count concurrent.

At the hearing last week the Defendants had appeared by video-link from HMP Bronzefield, where they are serving their sentences.

Senior Crown Advocate Simon Heptonstall, based at the CPS office in Reading, conducted both the trial and the appeal hearing.  He said today: The Court of Appeal agreed that this was a very strong case against both defendants and there was nothing in the trial that questioned the safety of their convictions.

'The CPS shall continue to seek to confiscate the proceeds of their crimes.'
