Eleven charged following drugs raids - Reading

Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised officers from Thames Valley Police to charge eleven people with drugs offences following a series of drugs raids, which were carried out across Reading yesterday, Tuesday, 08 October 2013.

The arrests were made as part of the Serious Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) led Operation Reginald, where more than 170 officers executed 22 warrants at addresses across the town.

The following people were charged and remanded in custody to appear at Reading Magistrates' Court today, Wednesday, 09 October 2013:

  • Babar Malik, aged 30, of Coalport Way, Tilehurst, was charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs, and two charges of money laundering.
  • Rameez Afzal, aged 22, of Catherine Street, Reading, was charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs, and possession with intent to supply a class A controlled drug.
  • Jonathon Cherry, aged 31, of Mason Street, Reading, was charged with four charges of supplying a class A controlled drug, and five charges of shoplifting.
  • Wahid Khan, aged 20, of Parkside Road, Reading, was charged with two charges of conspiracy to supply class A drugs.
  • Daniel Jacobs, aged 19, of Dee Road, Tilehurst, Reading, was charged with two charges of conspiracy to supply class A drugs.
  • Jacob Thomas, aged 20, of Cumberland Road, Reading, was charged with two charges of conspiracy to supply class A drugs.
  • Daniel Holt, aged 30, of Juniper Way, Tilehurst, Reading, was charged with being concerned in the supply of a class A drug.
  • Jason Beckles, aged 28, of Dulnan Close, Tilehurst, Reading, was charged with seven charges of supplying a class A drug, and possession of a class B drug.
  • Mark Jones, aged 38, of Willow Street, Reading, was charged with five charges of supplying a class A controlled drug.
  • Matthew Brodie, aged 29, of Willow Street, Reading, was charged with being concerned in the supply of a class A drug.
  • Gavin Mackie, aged 22, of Severn Way, Tilehurst, Reading, was charged with two charges of supplying a class A controlled drug, and two charges of possession with intent to supply a class A controlled drug.

Three men have been bailed until 19 November pending further enquiries.

A 34-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman remain in police custody at this time.

Two further men were arrested this morning in connection with this operation and also remain in police custody at this time.
