18 men charged to date, as part of latest street prostitution crackdown in Slough

07/04/2011

Eighteen of thirty-six men arrested as part of Thames Valley Police’s crackdown on street prostitution in the Chalvey area of Slough, have so far been charged, on the advice of the CPS.

CPS lawyer Chris Derrick said: 'On 23 March I authorised the police to charge these men in connection with soliciting offences in the Ledgers Road, Chalvey area of Slough, under section 51a of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

'This follows a joint operation to pro-actively combat the persistent problem of kerb-crawling and associated offences, which impacts negatively on the local community and affects the residents' quality of life.

'This series of offences follow on from a similar operation in the same area of Slough last year. It is the view of the CPS that positive, robust prosecutions of these men are necessary to make it clear that such anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.'

The men are as follows:

  1. Edward Dale (28), of North Green, Maidenhead
  2. Babar Tariq (24), of Brammas Close, Slough
  3. Sharaz Khan (22), of Wyld Way, Wembley, Middlesex
  4. Mohammed Kanon (23), of Dedworth Road, Windsor
  5. Kazimierz Zapala (46), of Glentworth Place, Slough

  9. Shafiq Ahmed (48), of Whurley Way, Maidenhead
  10. Mohammad Shoaib (27), of Sturbridge Close, Lower Earley, Reading
  11. Mahmoud Attiya (29), of Harrison Close, Northwood, Middlesex
  12. Robert England (34), of Langtree Avenue, Slough
  13. Satwant Singh (34), of Wexham Road, Slough

  15. Nilesh Patel (43), of Shaggy Calf Lane, Slough
  16. Michael Stone (36), of Granville Avenue, Slough

All eighteen were arrested between 21 and 25 February 2011. They have been charged with soliciting a person in a street or public place for the purpose of obtaining sexual services from them as a prostitute (contrary to section 51A of the Sexual Offences Act 2003).

All eighteen have been released on police bail to attend Maidenhead Magistrates' Court on 22 June 2011.

Sixteen other men, arrested as part of the operation, remain on police bail pending further inquiries. Some are due to answer bail this week, with others answering their bail in May. Three men arrested have since been released from their police bail without any further action.
