Twenty-seven kerb-crawlers sentenced as part of street prostitution crackdown

Twenty-seven men have today (22/6) been sentenced for kerb-crawling in an area of Slough, having pleaded guilty at Maidenhead Magistrates’ Court during hearings throughout the day, as a result of Thames Valley Police’s latest crackdown on street prostitution in Chalvey.

They had all been charged on the advice of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), with soliciting a person in a street or public place for the purpose of obtaining sexual services from them as a prostitute (contrary to section 51A of the Sexual Offences Act 2003).

Their details and sentences are as follows:

1. Edward Dale, aged 28, of North Green, Maidenhead, was fined £700.

2. Sharaz Khan, aged 22, of Wyld Way, Wembley, Middlesex, was fined £300.
3. Mohammed Kanon, aged 23, of Dedworth Road, Windsor, was fined £600.
4. Kazimierz Zapala, aged 46, of Glentworth Place, Slough, was fined £500.
5. Iqbal Javeed, aged 49, of The Crescent, Slough, was fined £700.
6. Mansoor Ahmed Malik, aged 35, of Stoke Poges Lane, Slough, was fined £600.
7. Shafiq Ahmed, aged 48, of Whurley Way, Maidenhead, was fined £400.
8. Mahmoud Attiya, aged 29, of Harrison Close, Northwood, Middlesex, was fined £400.
9. Robert England, aged 34, of Langtree Avenue, Slough, was fined £600.
10. Satwant Singh, aged 34, of Wexham Road, Slough, was fined £700.
11. Sohail Zia, aged 26, of Wexham Road, Slough, was fined £400.
12. Nilesh Patel, aged 43, of Shaggy Calf Lane, Slough, was fined £400.
13. Michael Stone, aged 36, of Granville Avenue, Slough, was fined £400.
14. Asad Mustafa, aged 38, of Chapel Lane, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, was fined £600.
15. Marcin Glibowski, aged 28, of The Crescent, Slough, was fined £700.
16. Muhammad Baig, aged 38, of Knolton Way, Slough, pleaded guilty, however, his case has been adjourned to Friday, 24 June at Slough Magistrates' Court.
17. Florian Bujor, aged 26, of Seymour Road, Slough, was fined £400.
18. Faisal Diha, aged 34, of Meadowbrook Close, Slough, was given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs. His sentence also took into consideration his guilty plea for driving without a UK driving licence.
19. Mohammed Din, aged 34, of Northern Road, Slough, was fined £500.
20. Matin Gafari, aged 24, of Guildford Road West, Farnborough, was fined £600.
21. Khazir Hussain, aged 27, of Uxbridge Road, Slough, was fined £600.
22. Abdiaziz Jama, aged 25, of Spackmans Way, Slough, was fined £300.
23. Firoz Kamaly, aged 41, of Moray Drive, Slough, was fined £500.
24. Adeel Khan, aged 28, of Canterbury Avenue, Slough, was fined £600.
25. Mohammed Khan, aged 42, of Canterbury Avenue, Slough, was fined £400.
26. Sajad Mohidin, aged 28, of Molyns Mews, Slough, was fined £400.
27. Ryszard Niemiec, aged 36, of Flamborough Spur, Slough, was fined £600.

CPS case lawyer, Chris Derrick, said: 'The fines imposed today reflect the negative impact this type of offending has upon the residents of Chalvey and acts as a deterrent for those seeking to engage in kerb-crawling.

'The CPS and police will continue to work closely together to prevent this type of insidious crime occurring in local communities, such as the Ledgers Road area. People have a right to live, work and go about their daily business, without this type of intrusion.'

Det Sgt Will Halliday, officer who led the investigation, said: 'Today's convictions are a combination of hard work and professionalism from Slough police officers, and other supporting departments, working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

'It shows that police in Slough are listening to community concerns and will take positive action to reduce crime and disorder, in this case soliciting. We will continue to carry out both visible and undercover operations to tackle the issue of kerb-crawling and prostitution, whilst working with the community and partner agencies.

'Let it be clear to those who seek to solicit females for the purpose of prostitution in Chalvey - you will end up with a criminal conviction and named in the media. You are a part of this unacceptable and anti-social conduct which has a detrimental impact on a local community.'

At the hearing today, three men pleaded not guilty. They are as follows:

28. Babar Tariq, aged 24, of Brammas Close, Slough. He is due to stand trial on 1 September at Bracknell Magistrates' Court.
29. Yankuba Touray, aged 40, of Barking Road, London. He is due to stand trial on 24 August at Bracknell Magistrates' Court.
30. Muhammad Shabbir, aged 30, of Trelawney Avenue, Slough. His case has been adjourned until 6 July, at Slough Magistrates' Court.

Two further men failed to attend court today and a warrant has now been issued for their arrests. They are Mohammad Shoaib, aged 27, of Sturbridge Close, Lower Earley, Reading, and Darren Green, aged 42, of Halifax Road, Maidenhead.

All thirty-two men were arrested between 21 and 25 February 2011. Two other men, arrested as part of the operation, were deported for immigration reasons.
