Daniel Dodd acquitted of causing death by dangerous driving

10/09/2009

Speaking after today's verdict Robin Allen, Senior Crown Prosecutor with Staffordshire Crown Prosecution Service said:

"In cases involving road traffic collisions that appear to have involved a 'racing' element the Crown Prosecution Service will endeavour to follow the recent case law that indicates that a prosecution at the highest charge should be pursued against drivers involved in this hazardous activity. This guidance states that to engage in this type of driving can be considered a contributory factor when incidents occur, and as in this case, when tragically it results in the loss of life.

This incident resulted in the needless loss of two young lives, and these are the devastating consequences that engaging in aggressive and competitive driving can have.

We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the families and friends of Mr Gibson and Mr Kalsevicius."
