Man convicted of murdering pregnant girlfriend

29/01/2008

Today, at Stafford Crown Court, Alec Goode, 25, from Rugeley was found guilty of murdering his pregnant girlfriend, Kristie Johnson, 19, on 29 March 2006.

Goode attacked Miss Johnson at her flat after an argument developed about their relationship. He punched her in the face, strangled her and stabbed her to the face, chest and stomach areas. He then left her in her flat having locked the door behind him and taking her mobile phone with him.

Speaking after the trial, Paul Farrow, CPS Crown Advocate said:
The attack Miss Johnson sustained from Goode was horrific and was especially distressing given she was pregnant. By convicting the defendant the jury have wholly rejected the defendants contention that he was in some way provoked by Miss Johnson.
Our thoughts are with Miss Johnsons family and friends at this difficult time and we hope that the outcome of todays trial goes some way to easing their pain.
