Driver guilty of killing motorcyclists
16/07/2008
Today, at Stafford Crown Court, Russell Wallace, 61, from Rugeley, was found guilty of causing the deaths of two motorcyclists on the A513 Armitage Road, Rugeley on 20 April 2007.
Mr Millard could not avoid the lorry and hit it in between the wheels. Mr Johnson was able to swerve around the lorry, but hit the kerb, and hit a lamp post. Both riders were pronounced dead at the scene.
Speaking after today's verdict, Mark Forster, District Crown Prosecutor for CPS Staffordshire said: "This is a tragic case which saw the actions of one man lead to the deaths of two innocent motorcyclists. Wallace chose to merely slow down before pulling out into the paths of the bikers leaving them with no chance of avoiding the lorry.
"Mr Millard and Mr Johnson were on their way for what would have been an enjoyable weekend with friends in Skegness. Their lives have been cut tragically short by the dangerous driving of Wallace.
"Our thoughts are with their friends and family at this difficult time and hope today's verdict will go some way to easing the pain from this tragic event."
Wallace will all be sentenced at Stafford Crown Court at a later date.
