CPS Charging Decision: Aliu Adeyemo
27/01/2010
Senior lawyers from the Staffordshire Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) have authorised officers from Staffordshire Police to charge Aliu Adeyemo with the manslaughter of David Churchman.
In 2002 David Churchman was a bouncer at a nightclub in Hanley and after a fight broke out Adeyemo got into his car and drove at a group of people. Mr Churchman received serious injuries and Adeyemo was charged and pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm and was sentenced to three years. Sadly Mr Churchman died in July 2008.
Sue Hanson, Senior Crown Prosecutor for Staffordshire said: "Adeyemo had previously been charged and convicted in relation to the incident involving David Churchman. The new evidence relating to his death has been considered and it has been decided that there is now sufficient evidence to charge Adeyemo with the manslaughter of David Churchman.
"A defendant can only be prosecuted for the second time in this way, with consent of the Attorney General. The file has been submitted to her office and the consent has been given."
Adeyemo will appear at North Staffordshire Magistrates' court on 10 February in connection with the new charge.
