Devon and Cornwall

Around 80 CPS staff are based at offices in Exeter, Plymouth and Truro. They deal with cases at the Crown Courts in Exeter, Plymouth, Truro and Barnstaple and the Magistrates' Courts in Exeter, Barnstaple, Torbay, Plymouth, Bodmin and Truro.

The CPS prosecute around 19,000 Magistrates' Courts cases and 2,000 Crown Court cases every year in Devon and Cornwall.

 

Exeter office

Mark Barton, District Crown Prosecutor

Mark Barton was a solicitor in private practice before joining the CPS in 2001 as a Senior Crown Prosecutor in the Bristol Magistrates Court team. In 2004 Mark was promoted to the position of District Crown Prosecutor in the Crown Court team in Bristol.  Mark transferred to the CPS office in Exeter in 2008, becoming the District Crown Prosecutor for the combined Magistrates Court and Crown Court team, a role he has held ever since. Mark is married and lives in Devon.

Plymouth office

Kathy Taylor, District Crown Prosecutor

Kathy Taylor, District Crown Prosecutor, PlymouthKathy Taylor joined the CPS in Leicester in 1988 as an administrative assistant. She was then sponsored by the CPS to qualify as a lawyer, completing her legal training within the service as well as gaining experience in a private law firm. In 1992 Kathy moved to the Plymouth office as a Crown Prosecutor and was promoted to head of the Magistrates court team in 2000. In 2012 she became the District Crown Prosecutor for the Plymouth area, responsible for the combined Magistrates court and Crown Court team. Kathy lives in Plymouth.

 

 

  

Truro office

Jonathan Richards, District Crown Prosecutor

Jonathan Richards, District Crown Prosecutor, TruroFollowing a period in private practice, Jonathan Richards joined the CPS in 2001 and worked as a Crown Prosecutor at the Bristol office for two and a half years before moving to the Truro office in 2004. He was appointed District Crown Prosecutor for Cornwall in 2008.
