Avon and Somerset

Around 160 CPS staff are based at offices in Bristol and Taunton, covering cases heard at the Magistrates' Courts in Bristol, Bath, Yate, Worle, Yeovil, Taunton and Bridgwater and the Crown Courts in Bristol and Taunton.
The CPS prosecutes around 2,500 Crown Court cases and 22,000 Magistrates' Court cases every year in Avon and Somerset.
Bristol office
Rose Farmer, District Crown Prosecutor, Magistrates' courts team
Rose Farmer joined the CPS in 1992 as a trainee lawyer in the Bristol office. Although mostly based in Bristol, Rose also worked for 2 years in Taunton. She was appointed to the role of District Crown Prosecutor in 2001, heading up a team responsible for prosecuting magistrates courts cases in Bath, Yate and Weston-super-mare. Since early 2012 Rose's team has also covered all magistrates court cases in Bristol. She lives near Bristol and is married, with a son and a daughter.
John Burgess, District Crown Prosecutor, Crown Court team
John joined the CPS in 2004 as a District Crown Prosecutor. Prior to this he worked at the Bar as an independent barrister. John spent his first 3 years with the CPS in the Taunton office where he managed the Crown Court team. He was appointed to his current role as manager of the Bristol Crown Court team early in 2012. John is married and lives in the Bristol area.
