Shane Jenkin sentenced to life

11/05/2012

Shane William Jenkin, 32 from Hayle, Cornwall, was today handed an indeterminate sentence at Truro Crown Court. The judge ordered that he serve a minimum of six years imprisonment and that he be detained at a secure psychiatric hospital.

Commenting on the case, Barry Hughes, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS South West, said "This was one of the most horrific instances of domestic violence we have dealt with in the South West. Shane Jenkin has changed Ms Nash's life forever and has deprived her of the joy of watching her children grow up.

"The CPS takes domestic violence extremely seriously and will always prosecute where there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to do so.  I would encourage anybody who is the subject of domestic violence or domestic abuse to report it so the perpetrator can be brought to justice.

"While I realise nothing will repair the damage Shane Jenkin has caused to Ms Nash and her family, I do hope that the sentence passed today brings them some form of closure and they feel reassured that this vicious man is safely behind bars."

Jenkin, who pleaded guilty to grievous bodily with intent harm last month, viciously attacked his then girlfriend, Tina Nash, breaking her nose and fracturing her jaw. The court also heard how Jenkin gouged Ms Nash's eyes out, causing her to lose her sight in both eyes.

Jenkin will serve a minimum of six years imprisonment minus 382 days he has already spent on remand.
