Second man guilty of Plymouth nightclub assault

30/01/2013

Thomas Field, 23, from Plymouth, was today found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent by a jury at Plymouth Crown court.

CPS Senior Crown Advocate, David Gittins said: "Thomas Field and Joseph Cadogan [who pleaded guilty to the offence at an earlier hearing] viciously assaulted Alex Wheeler in a Plymouth nightclub in November 2011, causing a life threatening brain injury which required an operation and intensive care from which he still has not recovered.

"We worked closely with Devon and Cornwall police, the owners of the nightclub and medical experts throughout his case and it is testament to the hard work of all those involved that we were able to secure a conviction. I would like to thank the witnesses who came forward, whose evidence was so vital to the case.

"This was a brutal and unprovoked attack on a young man who was out to have a good time. The jury's decision today shows this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated."

The sentencing date for Field and Cadogan is yet to be set.
