In the Dock: improving how we deal with cases involving vulnerable victims of sexual abuse
ALTHOUGH there can be no doubt considerable efforts have been made by the police and the CPS in recent years to improve the way cases involving vulnerable victims of sexual abuse, particularly children, are dealt with, more still needs to be done.

In the Dock: Connors case shows forced labour not a thing of the past
EARLIER this month, following a three-month trial at Bristol Crown Court, five members of the Connors family, William, his wife Mary, their two sons John and James and their son-in-law Miles Connors were convicted of conspiracy to require a person to perform forced or compulsory labour.

In the Dock: Anyone can be a victim of domestic violence
NATIONALLY, the police receive one call every minute in relation to domestic violence and women suffer an average of 34 to 40 incidents of domestic abuse before they report it. One in four women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime and two women a week are killed by their current or former male partner.

THE rapid development of the internet and communications technology in recent years has brought dangers as well as benefits. Anyone who makes threats to you on the internet could be committing a criminal offence. It's against the law to use the phone system - which includes the internet - to cause alarm or distress and the CPS will prosecute those who do so.

In the Dock: Don't be a victim of boiler room fraud
In August this year Tomas Wilmot was sentenced to nine years imprisonment and his sons Kevin and Christopher to five years each. They had been found guilty of running a syndicate of boiler rooms that defrauded an estimated 1,700 investors of £27.5 million.
