Man jailed for sexually abusing young girls

Damien Treavartha (34) of has today been sentenced at Exeter Crown Court for a string of abuse on young girls.

Appearing before His Honour Judge Salomonsen, Damien Treavartha was sentenced to 18 years' imprisonment.

Alison Longhorn, District Crown prosecutor, CPS South West said: "Damian Treavartha befriended single mothers in order to have access to their young children who he then subjected to repeated acts of serious sexual abuse.

"The CPS worked closely with Devon and Cornwall police to build a strong case against Treavartha and faced with that evidence he had no choice but to plead guilty. He is a sexual predator who preyed on these children for his own sexual gratification and the sentence imposed today reflects the seriousness of his offending."

His victims included one as young as nine years old. Damien Treavartha will also be required to sign the sexual offenders list.

Alison added: "The young victims have shown immense bravery in disclosing the abuse to others but it is clear that Treavartha’s offending will have life-long ramifications for them. I hope that the sentence brings them and their families some comfort and offers encouragement to others who have been the victims of such abuse that if they chose to report this type of offending the CPS will always prosecute where there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to do so."
