CPS authorises charges for senior Caerphilly Council employees

18/02/2014

The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised Avon and Somerset police to charge three senior Caerphilly Council employees with misconduct in a public office.

Nicola Haywood, head the CPS South West Complex Casework Unit said: "Having considered the evidence, I felt there was sufficient evidence and it was in the public interest to charge Michael Anthony O'Sullivan, aged 54, of Merthyr Tydfil; Nigel Barnett, aged 51, of Bargoed in Mid-Glamorgan; and Daniel Perkins, aged 48, of Brynmawr, Gwent."

All three are due to appear at Bristol Magistrates Court on 22 April.

The misconduct is alleged to have taken place between June and October 2012 .

The media are reminded of the Contempt of Court Act and now the three men will be appearing in court, nothing should be reported that could prejudice any future trial.
