CPS authorises charge of Paul Vowles for causing death of Jake Thompson

Having initially advised that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute, the CPS has decided to proceed with a prosecution against Paul Vowles.

Barry Hughes, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS South West, said: "Following an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission and in light of new evidence, Avon and Somerset police and the CPS conducted a complete review of the case against Mr Vowles.

"The CPS concluded that there is now sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to proceed with a prosecution and I authorised the police to issue a summons for an offence of causing death by careless driving."

The police will now issue a summons for Mr Vowles to attend the Magistrates Court for a preliminary hearing.
