Cold case Cornish murder development – arrest and charge of local man

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has today authorised Devon and Cornwall Constabulary to charge a man in connection with the murder of 74 year old Joan Roddam at her home in Delabole, North Cornwall, in November 2003.

Patrick Curran, aged 38, of West Downs Road, Delabole, has been charged with murder.

CPS Crown Advocate, Julian Herbert, said: "Following an investigation by Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, a file was forwarded to us to consider whether any criminal charges could be brought against this man.

"Having carefully reviewed all of the available evidence, the CPS has decided there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to charge Patrick Curran with murder."

Patrick Curran has been remanded in police custody to appear at Bodmin Magistrates'  Court on Wednesday 19  March 2014.

Criminal proceedings are active and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no commentary or reporting which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.
