Ball jailed at Exeter Crown Court for non-recent sexual offences

John Ball (65) appeared at Exeter Crown Court for sentencing having been found guilty of non-recent sexual offences, dating back a decade ago.

Ball was found guilty following his trial on 11 counts of sexual abuse which started when his victim was of a very young age.

Appearing for sentencing before His Honour Judge Erik Salomonsen, Ball had pleaded not guilty was told: "Your pleas of not guilty meant your victim had to relive those experience once again."

Ball was sentenced to 19 years imprisonment with a one year extended licence, and ordered to sign on the sex offenders register for life.

Senior Crown Prosecutor Clare Smith said: "This was systematic abuse over a long period of time. The impact on the victim was profound. We must praise the bravery of this victim, who not only had the courage to speak of their ordeal but who also have the faith that the justice system would prevail."
