Andrew Toms jailed for 19 years

Andrew Toms (51) appeared before Judge Julian Lambert at Bristol Crown Court where he was sentenced to a 15 year jail term followed by four years extended licence for the brutal multiple rape of a woman.

Judge Julian Lambert said he considered Toms to be dangerous, that he seemed to obtain pleasure from the humiliation he administered, adding: "Your pre-sentence report concludes you to be a high risk of harm via future sexual violence. You are dangerous."

Andrew Tomsí victim read the court her personal statement, in which she described how the rapes had had immense emotional impact on her physical and mental wellbeing, stating "The physical and psychological damage is too much at times. I will need professional counselling for some time."

CPS South West, Senior Crown Prosecutor Kathryn Jones said: "This case involved repeated attacks on the victim over several years. The bravery shown by her in speaking about these traumatic ordeals is to be commended."

The judge also imposed an indefinite restraining order banning Andrew Toms from all contact with his victim.

Kathryn added: "It is hoped that the sentence handed down to Andrew Toms will bring a sense of justice and closure to this horrific crime."
