Sussex man jailed for a year over dog attacks

A Sussex man has today (Friday 31 August) been jailed for a year at Lewes Crown Court after pleading guilty to charges under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Spencer Brown, aged 20, pleaded guilty to a total of 12 charges, 10 of which related to an incident in St. Leonards in July where a number of people were attacked in the street by two dogs.

Brown was jailed for nine months for each of the 10 counts of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control in a public place and cause injury, all to run concurrently.

He was jailed for a further three months for allowing his dog to cause an injury in a private place, which followed a dog attack at a house in Hastings in May. He was also given a one month concurrent sentence for possession of cannabis resin.

District Crown Prosecutor, David O'Driscoll, from CPS South East, said: "This case is a good example of how fast offenders can be brought to justice. The attack in the street took place on a Sunday afternoon with CPS South East informing the police what charges Brown should face on Monday afternoon. Brown then appeared in court on the Tuesday morning and pleaded guilty. I am sure that the victims, some of whom ended up in hospital as a result of this attack, will be pleased to see such speedy justice being delivered on their behalf."
