A statement from CPS South East following incidents of disorder
Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor, Area Operations Jaswant Narwal said:
"We have been in close contact with the Police in Kent, Sussex and Surrey to put contingency arrangements in place in the event of any further public disorder in the South East. Lawyers and CPS Chief Officers are on standby to provide charging advice and be available for any additional court coverage. We are monitoring the situation closely and since the outbreak of the disturbances the CPS both nationally and locally have successfully managed the charging and prosecution of offenders. I can reassure everyone that where there is evidence of wrongdoing, CPS South East will pay its part in supporting the criminal justice system to respond firmly and promptly to any unlawful conduct and prosecute perpetrators swiftly and decisively."
