Human trafficker jailed for 20 years

A Kent man, found guilty of seven charges relating to the human trafficking of three young Nigerian girls, has been jailed for a total of 20 years.

Osezua Osolase (42) was found guilty by a jury at Canterbury Crown Court of one charge of rape, two charges of trafficking the girls into the UK for sexual exploitation and three similar charges of trafficking them out of the UK for the same reason and one charge of sexual activity with a child.

Today (Monday 29 October) at Canterbury Crown Court, he was sentenced to 11 years for the trafficking charges, all to run concurrently, eight years for the rape charge, to run consecutively and one year for the charge of having sexual activity with a child, to run consecutively.

Chief Crown Prosecutor for the CPS South East, Roger Coe-Salazar, said: "This sentence shows just how seriously the criminal justice system takes the issue of human trafficking. Those engaged in this crime may think that it's low risk and high profit, but this proves that if caught, the sentences can be exceptionally tough. As the judge herself acknowledged during sentencing, the level of control and fear exercised over these girls still remains to this day. I hope with this sentence and the fact that Osolase will be behind bars for many years to come will help to alleviate some of that fear for his victims."
