CPS Surrey's response to HM Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate's follow up Report
03/11/2010
The Chief Crown Prosecutor for Surrey Portia Ragnauth has praised the continued dedication and commitment of her staff following the publication of HMCPSI’s follow up inspection of CPS Surrey.
The report, published today details the findings of the Inspectorates progress visit to CPS Surrey between 2nd and 7th June 2010.
Ms Ragnauth said:
"The report acknowledges the progress CPS Surrey has made in significant areas of work since the last inspection and this is testament to the hard work and dedication of my committed staff.
"Our action plan had already commenced prior to the visit and included necessary changes to our case progression systems. This will free up our resources to ensure that we are more thorough in our legal decision making processes.
"CPS Surrey has worked successfully to keep the Area within budget and an action plan has been drawn up to stringently oversee the administration of prosecution costs. These plans ensure that they will be regularly reviewed and immediate action can be taken to keep this within budget.
"We accept the recommendations made by the Inspectorate and the report makes it clear that there are a number of areas where we need to do better.
"I am confident however that we can improve the quality of the service we provide and are on track to improve the way we handle all our cases from start to finish."
