Inside Justice Week 2006

Inside Justice Week 2006 ran from 18-25 November and gave communities of South Yorkshire the chance to have a unique glimpse behind the scenes of the criminal justice system.

Staff from all criminal justice agencies joined the South Yorkshire Criminal Justice Board (SYCJB) in hosting a series of events throughout the week.

Prison me no way

The week was kick started at Chaucer School where Year Eight students at Chaucer Business Enterprise College took part in Prison Me No Way.

This was a live daylong exercise that will give them a taste of the criminal justice system and life behind bars. Judith Walker, CCP joined Med Hughes, Chief Constable and Andy Peadon from the Youth Offending Team in opening the event.

Brownie Competition

Guide WinnerIn the month leading up to Inside Justice Week Brownies and Guides across South Yorkshire entered competitions to design either a Justice Superhero or a poster designed to tackle anti social behaviour.

Judith Walker, CCP visited the winning Brownie and Guide Units on the Monday evening to award the prizes.

Neighbourhood Watch Round Table Event

Neighbourhood Watch EventNeighbourhood Watch Coordinators were given the opportunity to question members of the criminal justice system at a round table event.

The South Yorkshire Criminal Justice Board invited coordinators to join them to discuss topics including youth crime, anti social behaviour, community punishment, sentencing and victim and witness care.

Age Concern Events

CPS staff joined colleagues from within the Criminal Justice System to talk to old aged pensioners about both the criminal justice system and in particular anti social behaviour.

Exhibiting at Leisure Centres

The South Yorkshire Criminal Justice Board marked the start and end of Inside Justice Week by exhibiting at leisure centres throughout the county. The events offered members of the public an insight into the criminal justice system and gave visitors the opportunity to have their fingerprints taken (for fun), make nominations for Community Payback projects in the local area and learn about career and volunteering opportunities within the system.
