Working with Our Community
Here are some of the highlights from the financial year 2007/2008:
Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel
During the past year we are particularly pleased to have established a Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel to look at race/religious hate crime, homophobic/transphobic hate crime and disability hate crime. The Panel held its first business meeting on 13 March 2008 and learning points are both being taken forward and shared with our Community Partners.
The panel community members are: Hal Barraclough, John McKay, Maxwell Senior, Nasreen Ahmed, Irina Laycock, Mohammed Ismail, Hafeas Rehman and Taiba Yaseen.
Community Involvement Panel
We have also established a Community Involvement Panel, to seek the input of community representatives at a more strategic level in terms of our business planning cycle. Our work to establish a full panel is continuing.
Round Table Events
CPS South Yorkshire staff have participated in a number of Community Events with the Local Criminal Justice Board.
These events have taken place across the county, giving members of Community Groups the chance to hear more about the work of CPS and to have the opportunity to ask questions. A similar event was run at a Fir Vale School this year, and proved very popular.
Victims and Witnesses
The Area has also begun to capture feedback from meetings with victims of crime and their families, where prosecutors are ensuring that the progress of the case and the decision making process are explained clearly. Feedback from these meetings is very positive, confirming that direct communication with victims and their families is an important aspect of our work.
