Shoe Rapist Faces Life
04/09/2006
A 50 year old man who pleaded guilty to a number of attacks on Yorkshire women in the eighties was sentenced to life imprisonment at Sheffield Crown Court today. The Judge told him that he must serve a minimum of 14.5 years before he will become eligible
James Lloyd was tracked down by South Yorkshire Police in March this year following advances in DNA technologically.
Judith Walker, Chief Crown Prosecutor, CPS South Yorkshire said that: "This series of attacks were extremely disturbing and have had a devastating effect on both the victims and their families. We are pleased that these women have now been able to see justice done.
"This case is a tremendous example of how advances in DNA technology can help solve old cases. CPS became involved prior to charge and advised the Police on a number of evidential matters. CPS also decided what charges Lloyd would face.
"We were determined to ensure that the evidence presented showed that Lloyd is a not a reformed character and has been indulging in fetish activity since 1986 and as recently as November 2005.
"We have been speaking to the victims throughout this case and have ensured that they have understood the charges and the criminal proceedings which have taken place. The Police family liaison officers have kept victims updated and the CPS lawyer on the case has met with them face to face to ensure their views are considered."
