Sentence Announced in Baby Murder Case

13/07/2007

A father has today been sentenced to a hospital order with treatment for his mental illness at Sheffield Crown Court for the manslaughter of his 14 month old son.

Andreas Milakovic pleaded guilty to Manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Speaking after the sentence was announced Judith Walker Chief Crown Prosecutor said:  Any case involving the death of a child is upsetting for the prosecution team.  In this case Milakovic fully admitted his guilt at the earliest opportunity so the focus of the investigation and the CPS decision has been to determine his state of mind.

After careful consideration of both the evidence and the psychiatric reports provided by a leading consultant psychiatrist we felt it was appropriate to accept his plea to Manslaughter.

On Monday 5 February 2007 Milakovic administered his 14 month old son with four syringes of red wine and four syringes of Calpol before holding him under the water of the bath.  Milakovic then made an attempt on his own life.    He fully admitted his guilt to officers at the scene, in interview and in a suicide note he left.
