CPS South Yorkshire Says Farewell to Chief Crown Prosecutor
07/08/2007
South Yorkshire's Chief Crown Prosecutor Judith Walker this week leaves the Area to take up a new post as Chief Crown Prosecutor for Nottinghamshire and Group Chair for East Midlands.
Judith says: It has been a privilege to be Chief Crown Prosecutor at CPS South Yorkshire for the last eight years. I have always worked in South Yorkshire and have had the pleasure of working with an excellent dedicated team of people who I will be very sad to leave. I am however delighted to be taking up this post in Nottinghamshire and am looking forward to the challenges ahead.
When she first qualified Judith started her career as a defence solicitor before becoming a Prosecutor in 1983. She went on to become Assistant Branch Crown Prosecutor in 1990, Assistant Chief Crown Prosecutor in 1994 and took up her present position in 1999 as Chief Crown Prosecutor. Judith was awarded an OBE in the Queens New Years Honours earlier this year.
In her time at CPS South Yorkshire Judith has ensured that the Area works closely with its criminal justice partners in order to ensure that we bring more offenders to justice, help reduce both crime and the fear of crime and promote public confidence in both the work of the CPS and the criminal justice system as a whole. The Area was particularly pleased to be awarded an excellent rating in its last government inspection.
Nigel Cowgill joins CPS South Yorkshire on Monday 13 August as Chief Crown Prosecutor for the Area and CCP Chair for South Yorkshire and Humberside.
