17th Barnsley Brownies and 131st Sheffield Guides are celebrating success after winning the Inside Justice Week competitions run by South Yorkshire Criminal Justice Board.
Judith Walker, chief crown prosecutor, CPS South Yorkshire and deputy chair of the South Yorkshire Criminal Justice Board awarded Ceri Linton with first prize in the Brownie competition and Claire Sweeney with first prize in the Guide competition.
Ceri designed a Justice Superhero called Brownie Girl while Claire designed a poster aimed at tackling anti social behaviour.
Each girl won a framed copy of her poster, £25 in vouchers for herself and £100 for their Brownie/Guide Unit. In addition, each member of their unit was given an Inside Justice Week goodie bag to thank them.
Judith Walker comments: We would like to thank all the Guides and Brownies across South Yorkshire who have been helping the criminal justice system get ready for Inside Justice Week by entering our competitions over the last month. We had over 200 entries altogether and were very impressed with both the quality and the effort that the girls had put into them.
The competitions have been run by South Yorkshire Criminal Justice Board as part of Inside Justice Week 2006. The aim of this years Inside Justice Week is to open up the justice system to the public in order to:
- increase peoples knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice system
- encourage people to get involved by publicising the range of career and volunteering opportunities available in the criminal justice system
- inform people about the support available should they come into contact with the justice system, either as a victim of crime, witness, juror or as someone accused of a crime.
