Victims and Witnesses

YOU ARE AT THE CENTRE OF EVERYTHING WE DO

Victims letterVictims and witnesses are fundamental to criminal justice. Without them offender will not be brought to justice and neither victims nor society will receive justice.

The CPS and the Police have introduced new measures to support you and help minimise the ordeal of appearing in court.

Victims and witnesses are now offered a central point of contact that will offer support and information throughout the process.

We feel it is very important that victims of crime are kept informed of the key decisions taken on a case.

If we drop or substantially alter a charge, we will explain the reasons by writing a personal letter to victims.

Where further explanation is needed in cases involving a death, child abuse, sexual offences, racially or religiously aggravated offences and offences involving a homophobic element, we will offer a face-to-face meeting with a senior lawyer.
