Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender
HELPING YOU FEEL SAFE
We recognise that crimes committed against lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people often don't get reported to the police.
We regard homophobic/transphobic crimes as particularly serious because they undermine people's right to feel safe about and be safe in, their sexual orientation, and in their gender identity.
Every person has an equal right to be protected by the criminal law and our policy for prosecuting such cases helps explain how we will play our part by prosecuting cases effectively.
If a case involving a homophobic/transphobic element passes the evidential test and the victim is willing to give evidence, we will almost always prosecute because we regard the homophobic /transphobic element as a serious aggravating feature.
We are determined to play our part to secure the confidence of those affected by homophobic /transphobic crime.
