Domestic Violence
HOME TRUTHS
When we are deciding whether or not to prosecute in cases involving domestic violence the safety of the victim, children and any other person involved is the prime consideration.
We work closely with the Police to try and build cases with evidence other than that of the victims, e.g. evidence from the scene, accounts by the police officers, record of 999 calls and other circumstantial evidence.
If a victim has withdrawn support for a prosecution we have to find out why. We will explore all options fully before we decide whether or not to proceed with a prosecution.
Each case is unique and is considered on its own merits but as a general rule we will prosecute all cases involving domestic violence where there is sufficient evidence and there are no factors preventing us from doing so.
