Key roles and responsibilities
Lots of different jobs for lots of different people
CPS South Yorkshire employs 200 staff in a variety of roles including prosecutors, caseworkers and administrators.
Crown Prosecutors
Crown Prosecutors primarily review and prosecute cases following police investigation. For each case prosecutors consider whether there is sufficient evidence, and if so whether the public interest requires a prosecution. Our prosecutors also handle advice work, case building and advocacy.
Associate Prosecutors
Associate Prosecutors present cases in the Magistrates' Court on a daily basis. They handle casework that includes guilty plea cases and road traffic courts.
Caseworkers
Our caseworkers play a vital role in ensuring cases are ready for court. They attend court, liaise with other criminal justice agencies and process casework depending on your role.
Administrators
Staff working within the administrative arena play their part in the running of CPS South Yorkshire. Roles are available within human resources, finance, facilities management and communications.
