Chapter 2 - Special leave

Appendix 4 - Voluntary public service


The duties of a member of a body referred to below for which special leave with pay may be granted are:

  • attendance at a meeting of the body or any of its committees or sub-committees; and
  • other essential business approved by the body.
  Nature of duties Annual limit
A a member of a local authority, including Mayors in their Mayoral year and Chairmen of Councils 18 days
  Lord Mayors in their Mayoral year 24 days
B a member of a Health Authority 6 days
C a member of a Parish Council (in England) or Community Council (in Wales) 6 days
D a member of the managing or governing body of an educational establishment in the public sector 6 days
E a member of a water authority 6 days
